Character: Jim Hopper
Series/Canon: Stranger Things
From When? End of season 3; the mall exploded, and Hopper's presumed dead. For our purposes he was pulled into the Upside Down in the process because the Russians were trying to keep the portal open and the barrier was still thin, and by the time he ends up in New Dodge he's been there for about a year
Previous Game(s): N/A
World Description: N/A
History: general overview, although it only summarizes up to the end of season 2; season 3 deals with a Russian invasion to take over the portal to the Upside Down, more of the MindFlayer, and at the end of season 3 the main battle culminates in a standoff at the Starcourt Mall that ends with Hopper's presumed death.
For game purposes he didn't die, only got dragged into the Upside Down, where he managed to survive for a whole year before ending up in New Dodge. He's from the same alternate universe as the Elle in-game, although it doesn't really alter his own timeline significantly, since it doesn't really change his own actions or how the story unfolded around him significantly; he accepts that Elle and Mike are actually married, and understands that New Dodge is a place that exists even coming into things since Elle and Mike kept disappearing and showing up older, but he never really viewed it as anything but a place similar to the Upside Down.
Does your character have any close ties to existing canon characters? He's from the same one-off AU as Elle (which has been cleared by Mouse), so while he'll be generally thrown by the idea of New Dodge in general he'll at least have a canonmate he knows in the form of an adopted daughter.
Why do you think your character would work in this setting? Hopper's been exposed to so much weirdness over the years that an actually on the surface normal town would be a nice change of pace. He's got a lot of marketable skills to fit in on top of that; he was a cop, and he's been in the military, so he's well versed in how to fit into small town life and keep it running. He'll find his niche and adapt like he always does. He won't have accepted the offer willingly, necessarily, it's not really in his nature to just go along without a better idea of what he's agreeing to, but once he figures out the situation, and realizes he's got family there, and can effectively start over without having to worry about Demogorgons and Russians and MK Ultra, he'll opt to stay. He doesn't have to be stuck in a town that knows all his demons, doesn't have to resign himself to a specific role he's been in so long he doesn't know how to leave it. Sure, he'll worry about the other kids still in Hawkins, and Joyce, but they think he's dead anyway, right? He can maybe have a shot at a good rest of his life now.
How do you plan to expand their CR? Hopper's a gregarious guy by nature; while he'll be coming in from a more survival-oriented point, once he readjusts to 'normal life' he'll be much friendlier, much more interested in keeping tabs on what's going on. Especially where it comes to Elle; he'll want to know who her friends are, what she's been up to since they've been separated, and try to learn everything he can about the place. It'll make him extremely open to all kinds of CR, especially considering he's kind of brusque and cantankerous at baseline, so it won't all necessarily be positive.
What will your character do for work? he'll naturally be drawn towards law enforcement if they have an opening, given his long history of it, but if that's not available he's bound to find something. Handyman type work, if need be.
Inventory: his service pistol with exactly 4 rounds in it, the holster that goes with it, the clothes on his back as well as one extra 'outfit', a handheld radio, his chief of police badge, and his wallet containing: a few miscellaneous bills, his driver's license, a photo of Sara, and a photo of Elle, most of which is stuffed into a military-issue rucksack

Third-Person Sample:
probably between all the threads there's 300 words of Hopper-specific stuff here
First-Person Sample:
Day...what. Five? Still expect to wake up in the land of perpetual fog and misery but hey. The delusion endures for one more day. Maybe I'm dead after all, who the hell knows anymore. It's a decent afterlife, at least? God knows more than I probably deserve.
Sure, Elle keeps saying 'no this is real, I promise', but I've heard that song and dance before. I'll believe it...who the hell even knows when.
Everybody's okay at home, at least, or so she says. So the illusion-that-seems-pretty-damn-real says. Joyce is pretty broken up, which...shit, she deserves better than that.
Had enough on her plate already without adding that to the mix. Hopefully she'll be able to start fresh, at least. If any of that is actually even over. And Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb are in charge now, which is all kinds of reassuring.
I'm never gonna get away from Hawkins, huh. No matter how far I go, even wherever the hell this is, it's still gonna pull like a sonuvabitch. Frickin figures.
